This page is up for a usually unkown Madrid but there are "gems"

Well you think you know Madrid, but have you visited the BRITISH CEMETERY in Carabanchel which was founded in the 19th centrury?  It's open to the public on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays between 10.30 and 13.00 hours.  It is a gem, full of wonderful surprises with beautiful gardens and interesting tombs of various foreigners.  Quite often, Mr. David Butler offers organised tours through the cemetery (both in Spanish and English - but not on the same day) and he is a fountain of wisdom!  Please contact him at butler_d_j@yahoo.es to become on his invitation list.  Entrance is free, but it is always a good idea to give a small donation of even one Euro to help with the upkeep.

THE LARIOS AND TONIC TRAIL IN CENTRAL MADRID

i am continuously amazed that a number of downtown bars do not offer the well known Spanish Gin of Larios which I personally prefer to others.  It is not a question of cost - I do not like Beefeaters (which is being pushed) nor Gordons - My palate goes for Larios.  I also have to say that I prefer the Schweppes Tonic to the Nordic Mist which a number of bars have to sell these days but that is besides the point.

HOWEVER, the huge surprise is the extreme variations of prices for this particular drink and I am not talking about "up market" bars  - just normal ones.

Triskel Tavern, in Tribunal which is a well lnown watering holee for Brits, irish, Spanish and other internationals doesn't offer a bad price at 4.50 Euros and one always gets a welcome from Wendy and Jesus, the owners.  In comparison to other international bars that is a gift.  However, there are "spit and sawdust" places that charge up to 8 Euros whilst others charge between 4.50 and 5.

So I was pleasantly surprised to find that in La Calle Montera (which could not be more central), that the Bar Tui charges 3,60 Euros inclusing a good tapa.  The waiters/resses are also very friendly and the bar, whilst very busy doesn't have that constant noise that seems to pervade others.   As a person who just wants to chill out with a Larois and T before going home from a hard days work, I give this place my number 1 preference.  If anyone has other suggestions then please let me know.
